The current-gen BMW M2 Competition may be one of the best-driving cars BMW sells, but it's not the quickest 2-Series on the block. The new M240i xDrive coupe beats it in that category, as evidenced by this decisive drag race between the two German coupes.

U.K. publication Carwow brought the two BMWs together on a closed runway to see which would be quicker in a straight-up drag. While the M2 has more grunt (405 hp vs. the M240i's 382 horses), the lesser M has a very important advantage: all-wheel drive. That means it doesn't have to worry about struggling for traction off the line. As a result, it's able to walk away from the more aggressive, more powerful M2 in a drag race.

Carwow also does a couple of roll races with the two coupes, and the results are, unsurprisingly, flipped. It's the M2 that comes out on top because the driver no longer has to worry about off-the-line traction or getting a good launch. Just stomp the go-pedal and wait for those extra horses to work their magic. Factor in the quicker-shifting dual-clutch transmission in the M2, and the M240i never stands a chance.

We expect the new M2 to blow both these cars out of the water once it debuts later this year.
