We're not entirely sure what's going on here. I mean, we know what's going on - a matte-black Bugatti Chiron with a laptop-wielding co-driver is romping around the Nurburgring. We just can't quite figure out why.

See, most automakers test their cars at the 'Ring before they go on sale, so engineers can tweak chassis and engine tuning based on what they learn from lapping the 13-mile, 154-corner mega-circuit. But the Chiron is already being delivered to buyers, which would seem to preclude any last-minute tuning.

Perhaps Bugatti is testing an even-hotter version of the Chiron? It's hard to imagine anyone wanting more performance than what the 1500-horsepower hypercar can offer. But recall that the Veyron offered numerous "special editions" over its many years of production, including the eventual Super Sport that nabbed the title of world's fastest production car with a 268-mph top speed.

Of course, you wouldn't test for top speed at the Nurburgring. Maybe Bugatti's working on some sort of trackday-special Chiron? We've reached out to the automaker asking for comment on the video seen here; we'll update if we hear anything back.

Meanwhile, enjoy the thunderous sound of the 1500-hp Chiron attacking the Nurburgring.
