While Road Atlanta’s 2.5 miles of twisting turns allowed us to confirm that the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is as dynamically proficient as promised, the track’s back straight wasn’t quite long enough for us to corroborate Chevrolet’s claimed 212-mph top speed for its 755-hp sports coupe. Fortunately, the bow-tie brand has now provided video proof of the top-dog Corvette’s ability to surpass the two-century mark.

The top-speed run was filmed on the high-speed oval at Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP) in Germany, where the folks at Chevrolet pushed a Corvette ZR1 equipped with the $1725 eight-speed automatic transmission around the 7.6-mile track in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. With the wind at its back, the ZR1 cut through the atmosphere at a peak velocity of 214.88 mph. Traveling the opposite direction, the ZR1 managed to top out at 210.20 mph as it faced additional wind resistance. The two recorded speeds were then averaged, resulting in an official Vmax of 212 mph.

Not all ZR1s will be this fast; the 212-mph figure specifically applies to the standard ZR1. Opt for the $2995 ZTK Track Performance package, and the ZR1’s top speed falls to 202 mph. The package includes removable carbon-fiber end caps for the front splitter, stickier Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 rubber in place of the standard Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, an even larger rear wing capable of generating 950 pounds of downforce, and a handful of additional performance features. For the Corvette ZR1 convertible, Chevrolet claims a top speed of 208 mph.

Regardless, the fact that Chevrolet has crafted a Corvette so easily capable of breaking the 200-mph barrier is an impressive feat in itself. Considering that the car is sensational to drive and-at $122,095-is relatively affordable, the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 strikes us as one of the best performance values available today.
