Watch Derek Bell Unleash a 1960 Porsche 718 on the Targa Florio Circuit

From Road & Track

Five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell is a legend in his own right, a motorsports titan who has spent more hours behind the wheel of world-beating machinery than most of us have spent commuting.

But even he gets choked up driving a 1960 Porsche 718 on the Targa Florio. You probably would too, especially if the 718 in question was driven to victory at the 1960 Targa Florio at the hands of Hans Herrmann and Jo Bonnier. Our friends at Petrolicious matched up Bell and this 718 for its latest video.

Even though a four-cylinder Porsche sounds like it would pale in comparison to the six- and 12-cylinder Ferraris it was up against at the Targa Florio, it was more than an adequate match in its era. Its tiny flat-four produced an amazing 170 horsepower, and a lightweight chassis provided the 718 with excellent handling. With great drivers to extract the most out of the 718, it easily took the top spot at the famous race.

Even though it's a historic legend, Bell doesn't hesitate to drive this 718 flat-out through the Italian countryside. It looks and sounds unbelievably cool on the narrow, windy roads of the Targa Florio.
