The 1987 PPG CART IndyCar World Series was one to remember. Full of big names like Andretti, Fittipaldi, Rahal, and Gurerreo, the championship had everything you could ask for in a top-level open-wheeler race season. The Phoenix 200, the second round of the series, was perhaps the most exciting race of the year.

Mario Andretti and his son Michael took positions one and two in qualifying, followed closely by Colombian driver Roberto Guerrero. After the qualifying session however, Guerrero's car was found to be 2.5 pounds underweight, so he was forced to start at the back.

That didn't stop Guerrero though. The determined driver quickly charged through the pack of 22 cars, squeezing into the top five by lap 46. As the checkered flag waved, Guerrero took first place by eight seconds in front of Bobby Rahal for his first win of the series.
