Seeing a race car being driven somewhere other than a racetrack is always a strangely joyous occasion. It's even better when the car in question is none other than the legendary Porsche 911 GT1, an icon of 1990s endurance racing. Thanks to this video, we get to see the GT1 being driven on the street like it's just a normal car.

Unlike any of the heavier, detuned streel-legal versions of the 911 GT1 that Porsche sold in 1996 and 1997, this particular car was one of Porsche's actual race cars during the 1990s. It took a podium spot in the 24 Hours of Daytona, and has since been converted for street use. How? Surprisingly, they didn't have to do much.

All the engineers had to do was soften the suspension, swap on some road-legal tires, and install a couple of catalytic converters. That's it. Do those things to your GT1 race car, and you can register it in no time-at least in Europe, anyway.

Watch for yourself as this 911 GT1 glides through a town and the countryside on its way to Goodwood.
