Yahoo Autos Watch the Ferrari 488 GTB Face off Against the 458 Speciale on Track
It's the age-old question: Naturally aspirated, or turbocharged? Enthusiasts usually prefer one over the other when it comes to performance, whether it be for the instant throttle response of a free-breathing motor or the outright power that results from forced induction. When it comes to Ferraris, you can't go wrong either way, but in this track battle between a 488 GTB and a 458 Speciale, one is definitely quicker.
EVO put together another one of its manufacturer head-to-head videos featuring two of Ferrari's most recent mid-engine offerings. The 458 Speciale is a limited-run, track-ready version of the brand's already great 458 Italia, coming equipped with a 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 with a 9000-rpm redline. The 488 GTB is simply an evolution of the 458, albeit with one major change: a turbocharged motor. It doesn't rev as high, but the 3.9-liter V8 makes 660-horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque, 162 more lb-ft than the Speciale. That's forced induction for you.
Unsurprisingly, the 488 is able to hustle around the UK's Anglesey circuit faster than its naturally aspirated sibling thanks to all of that extra shove. But don't discount the Speciale, it's still one of the greatest driver's cars we'll ever see.
