Yahoo Autos Watch the Porsche 718 Cayman S and BMW M2 Battle on Track
The Porsche 718 Cayman S and the BMW M2 are quite different, but both are each brand's most-affordable performance car. That makes them a good matchup for a track battle, even if one is a mid-engine, two-seat sports car, and the other is a front-engine sports coupe. These cars may never be cross-shopped, but it's interesting to see them vying for victory.
Autocar got together a manual-equipped 718 Cayman S and an M2 for some hot laps around Blyton Park in the UK. The BMW is cheaper and offers more power and torque than the Porsche, but the Cayman counters with lower weight and a more balanced mid-engine layout.
Ultimately the Porsche takes the BMW, but you've gotta give the M2 credit. The 718 Cayman rides on a bespoke sports car chassis, while BMW's Motorsport division had to work hard to turn the 2-Series into a serious performance car.
We'll just have to set up a rematch when BMW finishes that more hardcore M2 its been testing.
