Watch a Rally Driver Narrowly Escape a Wreck After His Brakes Fail at 120 MPH

From Road & Track

Rally driving is a dangerous sport. No matter how much a team prepares, tests, and practices, there's always a chance something can go wrong. Irish driver Bertie Fisher had his worst fear realized when one of his brake calipers fail while going 120 miles per hour.

While approaching a sharp right hand turn during 1986 Galway Rally in his Opel Manta 400, Fisher slams on the brakes only to realize he has absolutely nothing behind the pedal. Thanks to his exceptional skill and experience-and a ton of luck-he's able to narrowly avoid the spectators, corner workers, and stone walls coming at him at triple-digit speeds.

Fisher pilots the car safely to a halt, without so much as a scuff of the side panels. It's without a doubt one of the scariest moments in his career, and shows just how treacherous the sport of rallying really is. Watch for yourself to see how he pulled of the save of a lifetime.
