One of the problems with luxury symbols is that they're often targeted by thieves. The Rolls-Royce hood ornament, known as the Spirit of Ecstasy, is no exception to that rule. But the British ultra-luxury brand wasn't content to leave its century-old hood ornament at the mercy of car thieves.
The solution was to have the Spirit of Ecstasy disappear into the hood when the car was turned off. But to prevent theft while the hood ornament was on display (and to protect pedestrians in the event of a collision), Rolls-Royce made it so the Spirit of Ecstasy will disappear at the touch of a finger.
