The Toyota Land Cruiser is famous among the car community for its reliability, practicality, and off-road capabilities. Used to ford rivers, cross deserts, and cut through snow, the Land Cruiser was never meant to be a speed machine. That didn't stop Toyota from turning one of its Land Cruisers into a 230 mph record-breaking speed demon.

The truck, called the "Land Speed Cruiser," was first introduced last year at SEMA 2016. The vehicle started out a stock 2016 Land Cruiser before being heavily modified by the team at Toyota's Motorsports Technical Center.

The Land Speed Cruiser still uses its production 5.7-liter V8, albeit with two gigantic Garrett turbochargers attached on either side. With the boost turned all the way up, the truck is capable of an insane 2000 all-wheel horsepower.

Also featured are racing buckets, a roll cage, a semi-stripped interior, and huge wheels at all four corners wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super Sports. In order for the Land Cruiser to reach such crazy speeds, it needed to be lowered as well. The results above speak for themselves.

Toyota enlisted the help of retired Nascar driver Carl Edwards to set the record, and after a few practice runs, he's able to nail that magic 230 mph number. This makes the Land Speed Cruiser the fastest SUV ever, beating out the previous record of 211 mph. Watch for yourself.
