Yahoo Autos Watch a Vintage Racer Barely Keep This Wild Corvette Under Control at Road Atlanta
Vintage racing is no walk in the park. Unlike modern performance cars, many machines from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, don't have things like power-assisted steering, power brakes, or even proper ventilation. None of that stopped this C3 Corvette driver from piloting his car around Road Atlanta at the absolute limit.
This weekend marks Road Atlanta's annual Classic Motorsports "Mitty," a three-day event devoted entirely to historic racing. According to the circuit's website, Porsche is the highlighted marque for this event, but thanks to Goodwood Road & Racing, we get to see at least one non-Porsche perspective of the races, and it's a good one.
This onboard video from a third-generation Corvette is one of the most entertaining in-car clips we've seen recently. Though it's clear this car is extremely powerful (that bulging hood is a good indicator), the driver-Jody O'Donnell-has no issue using a rather unorthodox one-handed steering technique to muscle it through some of Road Atlanta's fastest bends.
In the end, O'Donnell eventually spins it into the gravel after a particularly hairy moment of braking, which serves to illustrate one thing with crystal clarity: Driving a vintage race car isn't easy.
