Mid-Engined Corvette Spied without Rear Wing
A prototype for the new mid-engine C8 Corvette hit the straightaway at GM's proving grounds in Milford, Michigan for some high-speed testing-and luckily, our spy photographer was there to witness it. While we've seen numerous spy photos of the highly anticipated sports car over the years, we'll take any chance we can get to take a gander at the new 'Vette. Click through for more details.

The black velcro strips you see on the doors and hood were previously used to affix extra camouflage to obscure the Corvette's shape. Now that the car is officially confirmed, it seems the company has decided to let these prototypes breathe a bit more.

This model doesn't have the same body kit as earlier prototypes, lacking a lower front splitter that we saw in earlier photos. This might suggest that it's a base model without a performance package (which will likely keep the same Z51 codename) or any aerodynamic add-ons.

There's also no rear wing on the back of this prototype, which gives us a better look at the shape of the decklid.

Don't expect this exhaust setup to reach production; these dual pipes protruding from the lower valance seem like something in place for emissions testing.

We like the look of this prototype's wheels. The five-spoke design with diagonal offshoots matches the wheels on the prototype that Chevrolet is parading around in its official teasers of the car.
Caught high-speed testing at GM's proving grounds, this car looks like it could be a base model due to its lack of a rear wing.
