Formula 1 - French GP

If Ferrari and Charles Leclerc are going to get back into this championship fight, they need to strike while the iron is hot. The Ferrari once again seems to have race-winning pace this month, particularly on the classic natural terrain road courses that make up so much of this European leg of the Summer schedule. With just two races before a four week break that will allow Red Bull to catch back up with upgrades, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. need wins more than ever.

Thankfully for Ferrari, Leclerc will start from pole tomorrow. Unfortunately, his 3/10th advantage in qualifying was not matched by his teammate and he will have to again share a front row with Max Verstappen. Holding off the championship leader in the opening laps of races has been a major concern for Leclerc, once that he'll have to contend with again in France if he wants to keep any hope of a championship alive.

IndyCar - Iowa
Saturday, July 23rd - 4:00 p.m. ET - NBC
Sunday, July 24th - 3:00 p.m. ET - NBC

A doubleheader on the short oval at Iowa marks just the third and fourth oval races of this IndyCar season. These races are also two of the last seven on the calendar, making this a particularly important weekend in the championship. While Iowa may not be a double points round like Indianapolis, the two races worth of points available this weekend mean that any driver who struggles to compete on short ovals will face a significant penalty in the title fight. Right now, ten drivers remain within 100 points of that battle. In two days, that number should be cut down significantly.

NASCAR - Pocono
Sunday, July 24th - 3:00 p.m. ET - USA

The playoffs are coming up quickly. Ryan Blaney and Martin Truex Jr., third and fourth in the championship, still do not have a win. Fourteen other drivers do. If any other driver in the top 30 without a victory this season wins any of the next five races and neither Truex or Blaney take the regular season championship lead, one will miss the playoffs. The only solution is for the drivers that have been so effective all season to get to winning races themselves. The lone appearance at Pocono this year is the best bet for Blaney, who has been particularly strong at the track his entire career. With two road courses and a pack race at Daytona left, the need for a win will only get more urgent from here.
