Whipple Drops 3.0-Liter Blower For GM's HD Trucks Chevrolet

General Motors’ Heavy Duty pickups from Chevrolet and GMC just got a bit more exciting thanks to the folks over at Whipple Superchargers. The aftermarket horsepower experts have just released a 50-state legal blower package for 6.6-liter L8T V-8 models, which brings up to 500 horsepower to the 2500 HD and 3500 HD lineups.

If you’ve spent any time poking around the automotive aftermarket, chances are you are already familiar with Whipple’s work. The brand has been cranking out twin-screw superchargers since 1987, and have found immense popularity among drag racers and street demons alike. This particular package is specifically engineered for GM’s HD trucks from 2020-2022 that came equipped with the 6.6-liter gasser. Known internally as the L8T, the V-8 provides 2500 and 3500 customers with 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. The engine isn’t hurting for power in real-world application, but it never feels as powerful as the displacement would suggest.

Whipple has solved that by way of more air, installing their latest Gen 5 3.0-liter supercharger on the big V-8. The twin-screw setup is backed by the brand’s bespoke oversize air-to-water intercooler, which is constructed in a bar-and-plate style. There’s even an intercooler bypass system that helps cut losses to less than 1 hp during cruising or towing. The package is rated at 500 hp and up to 700 lb-ft of torque, which brings the gasser more in line with the Duramax.
