Whoa, Chevy Might Put a 580-HP Supercharged V8 in the SS Sedan

From Road & Track

The Chevrolet SS isn't selling in huge numbers, but it's one hell of a sleeper. Underneath its subdued styling, it packs rear-wheel drive, a magnetic suspension, an available manual transmission, and a 6.2-liter LS3 V8. But what if instead of just a naturally-aspirated 415-horsepower LS3, you could get your SS with the supercharged 6.2-liter LSA that made 580 horses in the last-gen Camaro ZL1?

It's still unsubstantiated, but that's the rumor coming from GM Authority this week. 2017 is the last year for both the SS and the Australian-market Holden Commodore it's based on. To send it off in style, the supercharged LSA might find its way under the sport sedan's hood, says an anonymous insider-the same engine that powered the 2012-2015 Camaro ZL1 and the 556-horse Cadillac CTS-V from 2008-2015.

If this rumor turns out to be true, that could mean close to 600 horses hiding under the hood of a sports sedan some folks might confuse for a Malibu.

Now that's what we call a sleeper.
