Why Dolly Parton Always Leaves Her Christmas Decorations Up Until January 19

Well, if Dolly Parton says it's okay to leave your Christmas decorations up in January, then we're not going to argue with the country star.

In a November podcast episode of "Cody Cast with Cody Alan," Parton opens up to the podcast host about why she keeps her Christmas decorations on display in January, more specifically, until January 19.

"I put up my Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving," Parton shared. "When they take down all my fall decorations and celebrate Thanksgiving and then we go right up and put every Christmas thing because I love Christmas...The outdoor houses this year, like the little pool houses and playhouses for the kids here on my farm," Parton said, as we envision just what a joy it must be for kids to wander her festive property.

For Parton, it's clear that leaving the holiday décor out is just one way she channels that positive energy even after the holidays are over. "So we decorate and I celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving until my birthday on the 19th of January. I always make 'em leave my decorations up 'til after my birthday, 'cause I am still celebrating," she added. With Parton's new holiday album out earlier this fall—A Holly Dolly Christmas—we hope she keeps those tunes blasting through January, too. We know we will be, especially during these tough times.

In the interview, Parton also spills some other interesting tidbits, including the fact that she always makes chicken dumplings for Christmas, as her mother once did, and a bit about some of the homemade Christmas tree ornaments her siblings and she have from their childhood.
