Before you take your car out on track, there's a lot you should check for safety's sake-tire pressures and tread, lug-nut torque, brake pads and fluids, and even hood latches. It's a simple thing, but as this unfortunate Porsche 911 track-day video shows, it's incredibly important.

If you don't close your hood properly, air will get under at speed, possibly forcing the hood open, and this case, completely free of its hinges. Here, the hood seems to fly totally clear of the car, which is probably the best possible outcome for this bad situation. It could have very easily smashed into the windshield, causing significantly more damage and reducing visibility to almost nothing.

This wouldn't likely happen to a car with a front-hinged hood, like a E30-generation, BMW 3-Series, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take this precaution. If you're going to drive fast, safety is of utmost importance. Learn from this guy's mistake, and make sure your hood is latched.
