How the World's First Variable-Compression Production Engine Works

From Road & Track

Earlier this month, Infiniti introduced world's first variable-compression engine for a production car. The 2.0-liter Variable Compression-Turbocharged (VC-T) engine adjusts its compression ratio on the fly, delivering more power or better fuel economy as needed. That's pretty cool.

But how does that actually work? That's what Engineering Explained's latest video, uh, explains. Turns out, while the mechanism that makes it happen is pretty complicated, the idea behind it is relatively simple.

Considering that engineers have been trying for decades to bring variable compression to production, it's awesome to see it's finally happening.
