Yamaha R1 wins German Design Award

Yamaha’s YZF-R1 supersport model has been selected as the winner of the transportation category in the German Design Award competition. It was Yamaha’s first nomination for this award, in which there were more than 4,000 entries.

This marks the fourth international design recognition for the YZF-R1 (2015 overseas model), following the Good Design Award 2015, iF Design Award 2016, and the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016. In the German Design Award, the Design Council recommends products from around the world that are already recognized as high design standards.

Only after receiving that recommendation can an application be made for the award, bestowed only on entries chosen by the jury from within each category.

The new flagship YZF-R1 supersport model was developed to enable riders to experience the technical sophistication of the YZR-M1 MotoGP machine, and comes equipped with the potential for circuit-level top speeds.

“The design is also a new innovation in the 'Speed Racer' concept, and represents a new strand of R-DNA.” (Which we guess stands for Racing-DNA. – Papa.) For more on the award, visit the Yamaha Motor Design Award on the Yamaha Global Website.
