Mauro Chimbay, 43, clung desperately to the hood of his BMW as he attempted to thwart thieves who had broken into his vehicle. The harrowing scene, captured on surveillance footage and obtained by The Post, unfolded in broad daylight, leaving the community in shock and grief.
The distressing video shows the heartless criminals accelerating the white BMW with Chimbay holding onto the hood. His valiant efforts to protect his property turned fatal as he eventually lost his grip and was flung onto the road, sustaining severe head trauma. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Wednesday, near 25th Avenue and 85th Street, across from a park where Chimbay had been enjoying a game of volleyball with friends.
Witnesses at the scene were left in utter distress, their screams audible in the footage as they witnessed the horrifying event. The video further shows one of the suspects, dressed in a tan jacket and red beanie, emerging from the BMW and swiftly moving towards Chimbay’s parked Toyota Highlander SUV.
