$376,000 Lamborghini Aventador burns in world’s most expensive test drive

The Lamborghini Aventador's status as the world's supercar du jour won't be harmed, and might only grow, with the news that one spontaneously combusted during a test drive Saturday south of Los Angeles. No, they weren't filming a "Mayhem" commercial for Allstate.

No one was injured in the fire, which reportedly started around the driver's side rear tire and quickly engulfed the carbon-fiber body of the $376,000, 631-hp sports car. Other rear-engine Italian sports cars -- OK, Ferraris -- have enhanced the thrill of driving with the occasional bout of consuming flame, a problem Ferrari was forced to address last year in the 458 Italia with a recall and a free replacement vehicle for every owner who suffered a prancing stallion flambe.

The charred remains of this Aventador, one of the few in the United States, was sent back to the Newport Beach, Calif., dealership for analysis. Among the minor crowd caught in the video above was the test driver, who makes the crack that it's the same way his first Lamborghini died. It's too bad that for whatever his next supercar will be, California's vanity license plates aren't big enough to fit the word "humblebrag."
