2023 IndyCar Schedule Released; Series Returning to Texas, Road America
Despite predictions by some that NTT IndyCar Series races at Texas Motor Speedway and Road America were destined to go by the wayside, both venues return in the 2023 schedule released on Tuesday.
The 17-race schedule also includes on new venue—a downtown street race in Detroit set for June 4.
The schedule is not a whole lot different than 2022's slate and will kick off on March 5 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., and the season will end once again at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California on Sept. 10. For St. Petersburg, the race will mark the 13th time the IndyCar series has kicked off its season there.
On the TV front, IndyCar will have 13 races network (NBC) TV, two races on USA Network, and just one race will be on the Peacock Premium subscription streaming service. That Peacock Premium race is July 16 at Toronto,
“We’re very excited for our 2023 NTT IndyCar Series schedule and to build on this past season’s viewership milestones,” said NBC Sports, VP, Programming Mike Perman. “In providing comprehensive coverage across NBC, Peacock and USA Network, NBC Sports is once again looking forward to telling the stories of these world-class drivers and this compelling series.”
The lone doubleheader race weekend on the schedule will again be at Iowa, where the Indy cars will race at Iowa Speedway both July 22 and July 23.
“We have worked hard to achieve date and venue equity, which has been an ongoing goal at IndyCar,” IndyCar president Jay Frye said. “We are excited to return to downtown Detroit, and the repaves at Road America and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will add new challenges for the drivers and teams. The intensity level will also be at an all-time high as we conclude the season with three weekends in a row.
“As we build off the record-breaking 2022 season, we could not be more enthusiastic to see how 2023 unfolds.”
