The Hornet is Dodge's newest vehicle and the brand's competitor to popular compact SUVs such as the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5. The Hornet beats most of the competition when it comes to power output, with a fast for the segment 268-horsepower engine as standard.

The Hornet also comes equipped with a generous standard features list that includes the latest in infotainment and driver-assistance technologies. While the Hornet may be one of the newer options in the segment, it quickly makes a strong case for your consideration. The Hornet is also available in a plug-in hybrid option, in addition to its standard, 4-cylinder gas version. Opt for the electrified 1.3-liter and that output figure jumps to 288 horsepower.

This variation gives the Hornet the same level of variety as segment leaders and allows drivers the ability to have a compact SUV that runs completely off of electricity for a time, without inducing the range anxiety that can sometimes accompany full electric vehicles.

The Hornet is smaller than Dodge's full-size, 3-row SUV, the Durango, and completes the Dodge lineup along with the upcoming, 2025 Dodge Charger. Shoppers looking for a capable compact SUV that doesn't require sacrifices in horsepower or features will find the Hornet to be a worthy option.

2024 Dodge Hornet Review

Sharing its mechanical substance and much of its sheet metal with the Alfa Romeo Tonale, the all-wheel drive Hornet nonetheless calls upon Dodge’s musclebound heritage in its attitude. The chassis is particularly well-tuned in response and comfort. GT models use a 2.0-liter four with a nine-speed automatic rated at 268 horsepower.

R/Ts use a 1.3-liter turbo four and hybrid system (driving the rear wheels) to net 288 horsepower. But if the battery is drained, that’s a small engine lugging the 4140-pound SUV through a six-speed automatic churning the front wheels.
