2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Tops the Lineup in PowerHonda
  • A mid-cycle refresh of the 11th-generation Honda Civic sees the addition of a hybrid version, available as the top two of four Civic trims, in Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid forms.

  • Hybrids can be had as either a sedan or hatchback and will turn out a combined 200 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque from its two-motor, 2.0-liter inline-four setup.

  • All 2025 Honda Civics get restyled front fascias and grilles, and revised taillights, with top-line Sport Touring Hybrid models also getting Google-powered functionality.

New colors, tweaked grilles, revised taillights, and a bunch of optional Google applications highlight the changes in the 2025 Honda Civic mid-cycle refresh, but the biggest update is the return of a hybrid model to the lineup.

We last saw a hybrid Civic on these shores in 2015. After that model was killed off, Honda marketed the Insight hybrid, which fulfilled the duties of an electrified Civic in all but name.

The Insight was discontinued after the 2022 model year, but with a buying public cooling on full EVs of late, interest in hybrids has been perking up, making it a smart move on Honda’s part to return a version to the Civic lineup.

The 2025 Honda Civic hybrid features a two-motor hybrid system paired with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, largely the same powertrain setup as seen in the Accord, turning out an estimated 200 combined hp and 232 lb-ft of torque in Civic guise, which Honda says will make it the most powerful non-Type R Civic ever.

As with the gas-only models, the hybrid will be available in both sedan and hatchback forms, but the walkup from base model to top-of-the-line changes slightly with the addition of the hybrid.

The 2025 Honda Civic will come four trims. At the bottom is the sedan-only LX, followed by the Sport; both are available only in non-hybrid form, powered by a 158-hp 2.0-liter engine. The top two trims, Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid, are, as their names make plain, reserved for the hybrid setup.

Conspicuous in its absence? The 180-hp 1.5-liter turbo EX model, which the hybrid essentially usurps. But as Honda says the hybrid models will make up about 40% of Civic sales, the automaker is banking on its turbo aficionados being appeased by the extra oomph from the hybrid—not to mention the hybrid’s estimated combined 50 mpg.

The 2025 Honda Civic hybrid also features four levels of regenerative braking available via selector paddles on the steering wheel. Modulating brake regen can simulate downshifting, allowing the vehicle to slow more quickly when lifting off the gas.

And as the two-motor hybrid system essentially makes do without a conventional transmission, Honda’s Linear Shift Control works to mimic the effect of gearshift changes in concert with throttle pedal application.

The hybrid models also get unique spring and damper tuning, as well as a hybrid-specific tire, and standard Active Noise Control. Sport Touring Hybrid trims get wheel resonators, which reduce wheel noise.

On the outside, all 2025 Honda Civic models get a slightly restyled face, with a more defined fascia and grille, and darker taillights in back.

On top of that, hybrid trims get a body-colored headlamp bezel and lower front spoiler. Top-line Sport Touring Hybrid models also get a new aluminum and black seven-spoke wheel.

Paint selections expand with four new colors including a sedan-specific dark Blue Lagoon, hatch-only Sand Dune Pearl, as well as Solar Silver Metallic and Urban Gray Pearl.

Hybrids also get the option of a gray interior color scheme, as an alternative to the sole black colorway on all other models. Sport Hybrid trims get standard a moonroof, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate control, with Sport Touring Hybrids adding leather seats, 12-speaker Bose audio system, larger 9-inch central touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Those top-trim Sport Touring Hybrid models are also the first Civics to get standard Google-powered functionality, including Google Maps and Google Assistant, among other features.

Honda showrooms will see the 2025 Civic sedan start rolling in next month, while hatchback models will arrive later this summer. Prices have yet to be announced, but expect the Sport Touring Hybrid to start at about the same place as the 2024 Touring model, right around $30,000.
