Motorhomes and RVs don’t necessarily spring to mind as preferred vehicles for performance enthusiasts. While the rolling domiciles provide families with unrivaled access to the great outdoors, they aren't usually considered to be the high mark of automotive style. This 1966 Dodge Charger-turned-RV is an exception.

Credit for the discovery of this muscle-car-based motorhome belongs to Instagram user ghettorvs, who runs a page dedicated to these sorts of automotive oddities. According to the poster, this particular vehicle was created by Dale Wasinger in Denver, Colorado, who previously operated the Great Dale House Car Company. The little-known shop was run by Wasinger and his wife, who have apparently constructed just over 50 of these RVs together over the course of a four-year stretch in the 1960s, according to the pair’s "dedication" website.

Wasinger reportedly began the conversion business as he wasn’t satisfied with the truck-based RVs on sale at the time. This particular build is based on a 1966 Dodge Charger, which is one of two examples converted by the Great Dale House Car Company, according to ghettorvs.

The Charger actually made its global debut midway through that 1966 model year, based on the same Chrysler B Platform as the Coronet. The nameplate wasn’t the immediate success you might expect based on the Charger’s legendary status today, moving just over 37,000 units during that first year. Regardless, it’s clear that most of the original Charger is missing from this build, having most likely been mated with a full-size truck back in-period. This was something that Wasinger reportedly did with vehicles whose chassis were not able to handle the extra weight of the builds. Nevertheless, all of the vehicles retained most of their factory components, with no upgrades to the powertrains or front suspension setups.

Beyond that, there isn’t a ton of information related to this particular build, nor the Great Dale House Car Company in general. We do know that the conversion is capable of housing a pair of occupants, complete with a small bed, a kitchenette complete with a stove, and plenty of seating for a few friends once you’ve reached your destination. While we don’t know exactly what engine is powering this stylish RV, chances are it retains one of the many V-8s that were on offer for the 1966 model year.

The dedication site notes that at least one 1966 Dodge Coronet originally came equipped with Mopar’s 361 cubic-inch V-8 engine. The motor was good for as much as 265 hp in B Platform applications, and it’s quite possible this particular build follows suit. Not that it really matters what sits under the hood, as this thing will draw heads wherever it goes. Of course, a modern Hellcat V-8 swap might be worth looking into. For science.
