This Elegant Brand Dominated M1 Cars & Coffee Last Weekend
What used to be abandoned land in Pontiac, Michigan, where General Motors had a plant to build trucks, buses, and other vehicles dating back to 1905 is now a private track and playground where wealthy car collectors can drive without fear of speeding tickets.
The M1 Concourse—ideally located adjacent to the Woodward Dream Cruise route—opened in 2014 after investors bought the land following GM's 2009 bankruptcy. Surrounding the 1.5-mile track are dozens of private "car condo" garages that sell as soon as they are built, and there's still room for more.
But the property is frequently opened for public events (like during Dream Cruise) and for monthly Cars & Coffee gatherings. This past Saturday, the M1 folks invited owners of Antique, Vintage & Classic cars to share a large asphalt skidpad marred by heavy-footed M1 members who have generous budgets for replacing tires.
So don't be too surprised to see skid marks throughout this gallery, especially under vehicles from perhaps the most unlikely brand. The local Rolls-Royce club chose this M1 event to meet, share a hot beverage, and allow the masses to ogle their magnificent British machines.
But beyond Rolls (and a vintage Bentley), you'll see lots of other classic brands represented—and a number of them still cranking out sheetmetal today.
