Fire at Webster Schroeder closes school Friday

Webster Schroeder High School and the Webster Aquatic Center will both be closed Friday after a small fire in a classroom caused the school to evacuate Thursday morning.

Firefighters from several departments were called to the school at 875 Ridge Road around 10:40 a.m. and found smoke rising from the roof, according to the West Webster Fire Department. They quickly found the fire in a classroom and extinguished the blaze.

Webster Central School District officials said that students and staff safely evacuated the building. No injuries were reported. Webster Schroeder students were dismissed early on Thursday.

While Webster Schroeder students will not have class Friday, all of the other Webster schools will be open and operating normally on Friday, said district spokeswoman Krista Grose.

Firefighters are investigating what sparked the fire, which according to West Webster firefighters was centered around equipment in the school's wood shop classroom.
