Lamborghini Next Huracan Has Fighting a Bull NameLamborghini

The vast majority of Lamborghini models draw their names from fighting bulls. From the Miura, named after a family bull farm in Spain, to the Revuelto, named after a bull with a habit of jumping into grandstands, the tradition has kept up across decades, owners, and brand philosophies. That continues with the upcoming successor to the Huracan, but the automaker is not quite ready to tell us what bull name has been selected for the new junior supercar just yet.

As Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Road & Track at Saturday's 12 Hours of Sebring, deciding on a bull name for new cars is becoming more and more challenging with every model.

"There are very few left because the bull has to have a good name, one that is sounding okay in multiple language, it has to have a story, it has to be not protected by another brand, and so on," Winkelmann said.

The CEO told R&T that a fitting name has been chosen for the hybrid successor to the Gallardo and Huracan, but refused to say what that name might be.

Winkelmann also said that Lamborghini also considered a fighting bull name for the SC 63, the company's first-ever racing prototype. Although he said he "was a bit in between" on the prospect of using one of the precious few remaining fighting bull names that could fit the brand's many needs, the group eventually decided to go with an alphanumeric name like those used on other prototypes in the IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championship fields. This particular one denotes the brand's Squadra Corse racing division and 1963, the year Lamborghini was founded.

The still-unnamed Lamborghini Huracan successor is set to debut late this year. Although no powertrain details have been revealed for the brand's next road car, Lamborghini's SC 63 racer notably utilizes a mid-mounted turbocharged V-8 hooked up to a hybrid system. If the automaker is unable to keep V-10s alive, as it did with V-12s in the Revuelto, that layout would make for a logical successor.
