The Last Bugatti Chiron Pays Homage To Its DebutBugatti

After nearly a decade since its initial debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Bugatti Chiron has finally wrapped up production. In order to celebrate the 500th example of the ultra-luxurious land missile, the team at Molsheim has created a fitting tribute to the car that started it all on that show floor. Known as the Bugatti Chiron L’Ultime, this one-off creation highlights all of the outlandish accomplishments the Chiron has achieved during its production run.

The Bugatti Chiron L’Ultime is the final special edition variant from this product line, but it is hardly the first time Bugatti has undertaken such a project. Like the recent "55 One of One" model that pays tribute to designer Jean Bugatti, the latest model is based on the Super Sport variant. Behind the driver sits an 8.0-liter W-16 engine that is force fed by four turbochargers. For the Super Sport models, Bugatti enhanced the engine with updated cylinder heads and valvetrain, as well as improved oiling and a slightly higher redline. The tweaks result in 1578 hp and 1180 lb-ft of torque, which are healthy gains over the “lowly” Sport. The car’s seven-speed dual-clutch has also been revised for faster shifts and the increased power output. Our sister publication in Car and Driver saw the car smash the ¼ mile in just 9.1 seconds at 161 mph, before ripping off a 0-200 mph sprint in just 14.8 seconds. It’s maniacally fast.

This is not a standard Super Sport however, with an entirely bespoke exterior design featuring hand-written names of places and events where the Chiron marked its spot in automotive history. These include names like Geneva, Cape Canaveral, Nardo, the Nürburgring, Le Mans, and Molsheim among others. The bodywork mirrors that initial show car with a two-tone Atlantic Blue and French Racing Blue layout, but flipped around. The darker hue now sits at the front of the car, fading back into the historic racing color as you move to the rear. Combined with the writing on the doors, the car looks like it's moving fast at a standstill. The Bugatti Sur Mesure team also added some unique trim pieces, such as a unique blue Bugatti macaron in its grille, as well as colored wheels. You’ll also find some unique graphic elements denoting the cars spot in the limited production run, such as a large 500 located on the underside of the rear wing.

Considering a standard Bugatti Chiron Super Sport starts somewhere in the neighborhood of $4 million, this special edition model is surely a pricey bit of history. That said, we wouldn’t be shocked if Bugatti decided that this car was best suited for their own collection, given its importance to the brand. Either way, don’t expect to ever see this particular example enjoying the ridiculous limits at its disposal.
