Maserati has been caught testing its upcoming MC20 GT2 at Monza, giving us our first look at the twin-turbo mid-engine race car on the move.

Revealed in March, the MC20 GT2 borrows the body and engine from the road-going MC20, meaning a carbon-monocoque chassis and a turbocharged 3.0-liter Nettuno V-6. In the street version, this engine makes 621 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque, though Maserati hasn't released power figures for the race car. Those numbers will largely be determined by the European GT2 series' Balance of Performance rules.

The GT2 has dropped the road car's dual-clutch gearbox in favor of a fast-shifting six-speed sequential. There's also bespoke suspension, unique aero, and a fully stripped interior with a roll cage, a racing bucket, and a bunch of other required safety gear.

The car, caught by 19Bozzy92 testing at Monza, looks fantastic in its tri-colore camouflage as it carves through the Formula 1 circuit's high-speed bends. It also sounds fantastic, that Nettuno V-6 sings without the restrictions of emissions or sound rules. If you listen closely, you can even hear the traction control kicking in out of corners. Neat stuff.
