Listening to a Ferrari F40 on Track Will Make You Smile No Matter What

From Road & Track

While Ferrari did produce a few F50 GTs (way too late) for the BPR Global GT Series, the last time the supercar maker built a proper racing version of its top-of-the-line sports car was the F40. Enzos and LaFerraris only seem to get raced during private track days. And while Ferrari only built "around ten" official F40 LM/Competiziones (after a customer wanted to race one at Le Mans), a lot more were converted to race specifications throughout the years.

You don't need to change much to get there, since the F40 is a carbon fiber prototype to begin with. Just listen to it at work:

A yellow F40 with the British plates 'F400 MPH'? Well, I guess it's time for you to meet Richard.

He is the sort of guy who pities those who keep their supercars locked away, driving his F40 all across the UK whenever the weather looks promising enough. He also knows how to describe a twin-turbo V8 that doesn't need a trick ignition, an active exhaust or digital enhancement to do the fireworks: Vroom-vroom-vrooom, puhpufpuhpufpuffrr.

This, or a McLaren F1 GTR's BMW M V12? Given the choice, we'd choose both.
