A woman was killed after she was hit and run over by a Horry County police in a truck on a beach in South Carolina this week. She was apparently hit by a 2020 Ford Ranger pickup around Thursday, 1 p.m. on Myrtle Beach.

Police were driving the truck northbound when the beachgoer was hit, according to WBTW News 13. She was taken to a local hospital where she died of her injuries. Right now, the events that led up to this horrible incident aren’t clear, and there’s no word if the officers will face any sort of discipline (they almost certainly will not.).

WBTW spoke with one man who was there when the horrible crash occurred.

“From my point of view, I had my back turned. I heard somebody yell ‘There’s somebody that’s been run over,’” Denis Miller said. “We run over here, and yeah, there’s a lady on the ground and there’s a truck on top of her.”

More eyewitnesses who spoke with WMBF News said once the police in the truck ran the woman over and pinned her underneath one of the front wheels, people tried to lift the Ranger off of her. Amanda Bilodeau told the outlet it all happened in an instant.

“I heard and saw nothing until I heard her scream and it was the most powerful scream, something that you can’t, like nothing from the movies or anything. It was just like pure fear or pain or both. Immediately myself and probably everybody on the beach turned around and just went running,” Bilodeau described.

Another beachgoer, Dennis Miller, said bystanders immediately tried to help.

“She was pinned underneath the vehicle, so a bunch of men, we came over, we did our best to lift the car up off of her,” said Miller.

“We hate that anything like that happened, and as far as the lady, we’re just so sad for her, too,” said Miller. “It’s just an unfortunate accident.”

This is somehow not the first time an incident like this happened on a Horry County, South Carolina beach, according to WBTW. Back in 2020, another person was hit by a Horry County patrol car while lying on a beach in Garden City. Luckily, she survived.

This is still a developing story, and apparently the police have refused to give out a statement on the incident so far. Jalopnik will update this article when and if we get more information.
