Toyota Could Bring Land Cruiser Prado to the U.S.Toyota

Toyota could be reviving the Land Cruiser for the U.S., but not in the way we expected. According to Automotive News, the Land Cruiser nameplate might return to our shores in the form of the Land Cruiser's smaller, cheaper sibling, the Land Cruiser Prado.

The Land Cruiser Prado is simply the Toyota-badged version of the Lexus GX, sold to overseas markets (but never in the United States). An unnamed source told Automotive News Toyota is planning to introduce the Land Cruiser Prado to the U.S. market after a redesign next year, dropping the "Prado" from the name and simply calling it the Land Cruiser.

Toyota still makes a full-size Land Cruiser, of course, but doesn't sell it in America. The SUV was dropped from the lineup back in 2021 after a redesign. The luxury-focused Lexus version, the LX600, is still offered in the United States.

Coincidentally, the Lexus GX is getting its first redesign in over a decade, with a full announcement covering features and spec expected later today. If this rumor about the Prado coming to the U.S. is true, the GX will give us a good idea of what to expect from the Toyota version coming Stateside.

This is still a rumor, of course, so take it with a grain of salt. It's also possible Toyota could bring the big-boy 300-Series Land Cruiser Stateside at some point, seeing as how it already sells the Lexus version here.
