Watch Modern Police Cars Chase A Stolen Crown Victoria

There’s an ongoing debate among those in law enforcement and some car enthusiasts about whether or not the Ford Crown Victoria was in fact the best police car ever. Some really believe it was the peak of pursuit rated cruisers, while others lean more towards modern Dodge Chargers or some other option. Well, this police chase out of Michigan is only going to add fuel to the fire of the debate.

A man accused of stealing his own car sues police.

A suspect stole a Crown Vic in Muskegon when Michigan State Police spot the car, giving chase. It’s in the winter and snow is actively falling, so that adds and extra wrinkle into the chase. But that doesn’t seem to slow down the suspect much as he blows through stop signs and traffic lights.

Unfortunately, our camera car isn’t a Dodge Charger with the Hemi V8. Instead, it’s definitely a V6 and we believe is a Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, but let us know if you think it’s something else. At any rate, the cruiser has no problem keeping up with the Crown Vic even as the troopers are cautious at the different intersections.

Some might argue this is more a matter of drivers and their skill, not the actual vehicles. That might be true, especially when the suspect driver fishtails out of control, putting the rear-wheel-drive sedan onto a snowy lawn.

Then the driver decides to embrace it and steers for another snowy lawn, probably thinking he was taking a nice shortcut. But the MSP cruiser keeps up and the trooper PITs the car right as they both get back on the pavement. It’s almost too easy.

Still, it is interesting to watch how the Crown Vic does compared to modern police cruisers.
