In 1960, Jo Bonnier and Hans Herrmann won the Sicily-spanning Targa Florio in a Porsche 718 RS-60. That car has since lived in collector hands and now belongs to the Revs Institute in Florida, but it still runs and drives and the group sometimes takes it out for demo runs. In this month's FAT Ice Race in Colorado, one of those demo runs just happened to be in the snow.

Jeff Zwart, one of the brains behind the iconic Luftgekühlt Porsche show series and a many-time Pikes Peak participant in various Porsches, got behind the wheel for one run in the car and shared his own on-board footage. The clip only shows half a lap, but Zwart pulls no punches sliding the museum-kept car around the ice course with sharp applications of both the throttle and the car's massive wooden steering wheel.

This RS-60 was a crucial development in the history of the 718, the smaller Porsche racer that punched above its weight and justified the brand's future investments in big prototypes like the 917 and 956. The direct path from this Targa Florio winner leads to the brand's record 19 overall wins at Le Mans, including a 1994 win in a FAT-sponsored 962 that gave this ice race its name and a 1998 win in a 911 GT1 that also participated in the event. As one of the most important specific 718 racers in history, this particular RS-60 is also partially responsible for the full model name of every Boxster and Cayman produced today.
