Yahoo Autos Alfa Romeo Takes A Dramatic Turn With The 33 Stradale

Many who are alive today have only read about the days when Alfa Romeo was cranking out futuristic, exotic rides which excited the minds of young and old. But even for people who saw that heyday firsthand, the revealing of the 33 Stradale was shocking, and not just for the radical design. After all, we’ve all been cajoled into believing Alfa Romeo would forever be producing sedans and crossovers with the occasional mid-engine offering that doesn’t get too wild.

Instead, the storied Italian brand has veered off in a new direction with the 33 Stradale. It’s so daring some have mistakenly thought it’s simply a concept or a digital rendering which will never roll out of the factory and onto a dealer showroom.
The new halo supercar will be built by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, a coachbuilder which needs no introduction. Considering the swooping lines and dramatic canopy incorporated into the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, it isn’t something just any facility can build properly.
Power comes via a twin-turbo V6 engine with undisclosed displacement. Alfa Romeo says it will produce over 620-horsepower, with a battery-electric version pumping out over 750-hp. The ICE model will make use of an eight-speed DCT gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and an electronic limited-slip differential.
As one might expect, this machine punches above a top speed of 206 mph. The automaker also claims it will go from 100 kmh to 0 in under 33 meters. We imagine handling should be razor sharp to match.
Patterned after the legendary Tipo 33, this new model will see limited production, although it’s not clear just how many will ultimately be made. Still, many analysts seem to believe pricing will be in the neighborhood of $1,000,000.
This announcement brings Alfa Romeo back into an elite group of brands which appeal to high-end collectors and enthusiasts. How the automaker plans to cater to the special needs of such clientele, which are far different from the average Giulia or Quadrifoglio owner remains to be seen.
