  • Our newest spy photos of the 2025 Ford Expedition confirm new interior and exterior styling for the full-size SUV.

  • Along with new headlights and taillights, the spy photos appear to confirm rumors of a new split tailgate similar to the BMW X5.

  • The photos also reveal 24-inch wheels, which would be a first for the Expedition.

Ford's full-size SUV has been around in its current form dating back to 2018. Since it hasn't been updated since a mid-cycle refresh in 2022, the Blue Oval brand has decided 2025 is high time for the Expedition to receive its next comprehensive overhaul. Our spy photographers caught sight of a heavily camouflaged Expedition back in March, but now most of that camo has been stripped away and we've gotten our first good look at the refreshed SUV.

The 2025 SUV was caught driving on a set of 24-inch wheels, marking the first time the Expedition has been offered on such a large wheel. The front fascia is all new and features a simplified look. New, sleek headlights border a redesigned grille. The new headlights continue to be wrapped by C-shaped running lights, though they're now split between two housings instead of being in one unit as on the older vehicle.

Our most recent round of spy photos also fully reveals the updated taillights. The new units appear taller than the old lights. Rather than the previous version that cut sharply into the Expedition's body, the new lights look to be skinnier. The big news at the back of the Expedition is the split tailgate. There's still no confirmation, but keen eyes will make out a hard crease beneath the mule's camouflage that seems to indicate a split-gate design. If the rumors prove true, the Expedition would join SUVs such as the BMW X5 and Land Rover Range Rover with similar designs.

Inside the Expedition, pictures from our spy photographer confirm the addition of a huge 48.0-inch display from the Lincoln Nautilus spanning the dashboard. As with the Nautilus, we don't expect the top display to be a touchscreen. It will instead be controlled through the smaller 11.1-inch infotainment touchscreen mounted on the center of the dash.

As for the things our photographers can't see, we expect the Expedition to continue with the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 it has now. The base models produce 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, but upgrading to the Limited increases those figures to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet. There's also the possibility that the Expedition lineup could add a hybrid powertrain, likely in the form of the 430-hp hybrid V-6 found in the 2024 F-150.

Although no firm reveal date has been announced, we expect to see the 2025 Expedition later this year.
