For folks in the market for an electric vehicle, leasing is often the better strategy over purchasing as buyers get more discounts, without having to gamble on resale value. Volkswagen has some attractive lease deals nationwide, including one VW ID 4 offer from a California dealer that a middle schooler might have written.

New Century Volkswagen in Glendale, has a cheeky offer on their website for a 2024 ID 4 standard range at $69 per month.

One of the frustrating things about comparing advertised lease deals is that it’s possible to promote practically any payment as long as you make the downpayment big enough. Once you dig into the details, the offer isn’t quite as cheap as it sounds.

Buyers would need to bring almost $5,000 down for a 10,000-mile, 24-month lease and this does not include the $700 acquisition fee or any local sales tax, DMV, or dealer fees. However, even after you factor in all those additional charges you still end up with a pretty compelling deal. If you rolled in all the upfront charges you are looking at an effective lease payment of $309 per month before tax on a car with an MSRP of $41,541. That is still a fantastic payment-to-MSRP ratio even if it doesn’t sound as nice as the advertised offer.

You don’t need to be in California to get a great deal on an ID 4. Nationwide, there are electric VWs advertised with massive discounts which would likely result into some really cheap leases.

Of course, these listings are from car dealers so be aware of prices that seem too good to be true as often the cheapest advertisements have some caveats that make the actual price much higher. This is why it always pays to shop around and compare quotes.
