Ford Details Mustang GTD Packs, New Carbon ModelFord

With festivities for the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans underway in France, Ford has decided to give us some additional information about the race-derived Mustang GTD. Here’s everything you need to know about the car’s optional Performance Package and its track-specific content, the GTD-exclusive interior, as well as new details on Ford’s latest bare-carbon model.

The Mustang GTD is slated to be the most extreme version of the pony car yet. Drawing inspiration from road-going track machines like the Porsche GT3 RS, the GTD aims to put serious levels of performance in the hands of its owners. Wider carbon fiber bodywork, inboard rear suspension, an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle, and a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 making over 800 hp are the main highlights. Thanks to Ford’s European debut of the GTD in France, we now know that the initial show car’s signature active aero package, which includes an F1-inspired Drag Reduction System, is tied to the optional Performance Pack. This package will include an all-new front fascia complete with large dive planes and the active DRS elements out back.

That package also brings hardware from the optional Lightweight Pack, which brings lighter 20-inch magnesium wheels, as well as the removal of some of the standard car’s sound deadening. Ford says that this setup will be crucial in its efforts to break the seven-minute mark around the Nürburgring. The packages will be available across the Mustang GTD range.

Ford opted to show off this new package with an all-new Mustang GTD Carbon Series model. Much like the Multimatic-built Ford GT that came before it, this special variant of the Mustang GTD features a suite of bare-finished carbon fiber. The package includes a hood, roof, and rear deck lid all finished in unpainted carbon fiber, with optional painted stripes offering a bit of contrast. Customers can also choose between Grabber blue, Race red, or black brake calipers. It’s not quite as striking as its supercar predecessor, but it does bring some of the same attitude as the current GT3 RS.

That Carbon Series model also brought us our first look at the GTD’s bespoke interior. Like its S650 siblings, the GTD’s interior is dominated by a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment screen. Recaro bucket seats help to keep you in place around the corners, while a new flat-bottomed steering wheel sits just ahead of you. Mounted to that wheel sits a pair of 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters. The wheel also features all of the buttons you’ll need to adjust your performance on the fly, including suspension and exhaust levels. The interior also picks up new hard buttons for the track apps page, as well as the front nose lift system.
