Great cars coming in 2024 and beyond
- 1/58
We’ve rounded up every new car coming in 2024 and beyond, and whatever you’re after, there’s something here for everyone.
We reveal what’s coming when and what’s special about each car. From V8s to mega-range electric models let's get stuck in; starting with the cars arriving shortly, running through to cars we’re going to have to wait a bit longer for.
Cars are illustrated with a combination of spy shots and our own expert illustrations of what we believe they’ll look like:
Autocar - 2/58
Hyundai Ioniq 7
Hyundai is making its first all-electric three-row SUV, and we expect it to be unveiled in June 2024. The Ioniq 7 is predicted to have autonomous driving capability.
Autocar - 3/58
Land Rover Defender Octa
Set for launch on July 3rd, Land Rover say the Defender Octa will be "the toughest, most capable, and luxurious Defender vehicle ever.” It is going to be limited to 1070 examples within the first year of production. It will have 6D air suspension from the SV and will use a twin-turbocharged, mild-hybrid 4.4-litre V8 from BMW.
Autocar - 4/58
Cadillac Escalade V
The new Escalade was spotted completely devoid of camouflage gear for the first time recently. The new front end has a sleeker design with narrower lights leading to the edge of the bonnet. The black plastic trim around the grille is like that of an electric Escalade IQ. The largest changes appear to be in the interior. It has digital screens spanning the width of the dash with very little in the way of dials. Expect an autumn 2024 launch.
Autocar - 5/58
Audi A5 Avant
In 2024, the Audi A4 model-line will be rebranded to A5 as Audi rethinks its branding for the hybrid era, designating internal-combustion-engined cars with odd numbers. Spotted testing at the Nürburgring ahead of its debut, the new A5’s styling is a clear evolution of the current model's, with more angular headlights and a larger, flatter, front grille.
Autocar - 6/58
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Performance
With ever tightening emission regulations it is likely this will be one of Mercedes’ final V8s.
The prototype photographed here has carbon-ceramic brakes and a larger air duct at the front compared to the outgoing model, giving it an aggressive look. Mercedes says the AMG GT63 Performance reaches 60 mph in a remarkable 2.7 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating AMG production model of all time. A launch is expected very soon.
Autocar - 7/58
BMW M5 Hybrid
BMW’s M performance car division will give the seventh-generation BMW M5 a new hybrid drivetrain that is set to boost its reserves to “over 700bhp” and offer “limited electric drive compatibility”, a source close to the German car maker has confirmed.
Due on sale in late 2024, the new super-saloon is among a series of M models that will switch from a conventional petrol engine to plug-in hybrid power in a move that will provide it with a hike in power and performance.
Autocar - 8/58
Audi SQ5
The all-new Audi SQ5 is approaching a launch in 2024 as the sportiest variant of the totally overhauled Q5 range. The third-generation version of Audi’s best-selling global model, the Q5, will also be one of the German car maker’s final new ICE cars. Before the German firm starts releasing only EVs from 2026, it will launch a new line of combustion engines compliant with the latest Euro 7 emissions regulations.
Autocar - 9/58
Ferrari Roma V12
The current Ferrari Roma is only available with a 3.9-litre V8, but we believe a V12-powered variant may be on the way. The rear window as well as the third braking light has been modified so that this larger engine fits into this car. We hope we’ll see this car in 2024.
Autocar - 10/58
BMW 1 Series F70
We believe this camouflaged BMW 1 Series is the new F70 version, being benchmarked alongside an uncamouflaged current 1 Series. Expect the new car in late 2024, with a range of conventional and hybrid engine options.
Autocar - 11/58
Volkswagen Tiguan
Up until now the only form of electrification the Volkswagen Tiguan has been subjected to is a plug-in hybrid, but the next generation model will be fully electric. Noticeably, the upcoming Tiguan features a brand-new grille design as an open grille will no longer be required. The Tiguan, which is set to arrive in 2024, will sit among the popular VW ID range and offer an alternative to the ID.4 crossover SUV. Testing is currently underway, and it remains to be seen how the Tiguan will perform in 2024.
Autocar - 12/58
Aston Martin DBS successor
A successor to the Aston Martin DBS is due to be launched by the end of this year. Photos of the first prototypes show sizeable differences to the current DBS. The side profile appears longer, has a noticeably wider grille and a chunkier rear end. The DBS successor is rumoured to revive the Vanquish nameplate and will serve as the flagship of Aston Martin's front-engine line-up.
Autocar - 13/58
Lamborghini Temerario
The Temerario will replace the Huracán in the current model line-up. Compared to its predecessor, the front lights appear slimmer, front bumper more angular and the taillights have a hexagonal shape almost reminiscent of 1980s Lamborghinis. Reports suggest it will be a PHEV and that a 10,000rpm V8 twin-turbo will replace the V10 currently in the Huracán. Lamborghini has hinted that the car will be unveiled fully later in 2024 but launched in 2025.
Autocar - 14/58
Jaguar XJ EV
Jaguar is shortly about to revamp its entire model range as the brand goes all-electric from 2025. The first model will be a new four-seat grand tourer EV, conceived as an indirect replacement for its long-running XJ series of luxury saloons. Expect recharging in as little 13 minutes, a range of at least 385 miles, four-wheel drive and steering, and 450bhp on tap.
Autocar - 15/58
Toyota Small SUV EV
We saw this new Toyota EV on the road for the first time in 2023. This prototype is a pure electric vehicle, but the model will also be available as a plug-in hybrid. In terms of size, the new model is similar to the Yaris Cross; we expect to see this car officially in late 2024.
Autocar - 16/58
Ford Maverick Lobo
Ford has trademarked the Maverick Lobo name, and it may point to this interesting new prototype, caught testing in Dearborn, Michigan. The heavy front-end camo appears to hide a more aggressive front-fascia, with a lowered, muscled stance. The prototype is fitted with new, larger 19-inch wheels. Expect this car in late 2024.
Autocar - 17/58
Cupra Terramar
The Terramar is a replacement model for the current Ateca. This Tiguan and Sportage competitor will come in mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. With new PHEV technology, it has a confirmed pure electric range of up to 62 miles. It will be the last Cupra launched with a combustion engine offering, as the brand looks to going all-electric in 2030. A launch is due at the end of 2024.
Autocar - 18/58
Volkswagen Phideon
The outgoing Phideon has not set the market alight in its homeland of China with only 3500 units getting sold last year. Based on the spy photographs, it is likely the new Phideon will be using the same platform as current version. The test car appears to have a slightly longer wheelbase and Passat influenced styling. It is highly unlikely that the car will ever be launched in the UK but expect it to arrive in Chinese showrooms in the latter part of 2024.
Autocar - 19/58
Tesla Model 2
A smaller and more affordable Tesla has been rumoured for years, but recently Elon Musk teased a picture that may be the new ‘Model 2’. The market is crying out for cheaper EVs and we can certainly see this model selling like hot cakes, if and when it arrives. As with everything that Mr Musk does, it’s unlikely to be boring. We like to think this car could be on the road by 2025.
Autocar - 20/58
2026 Renault Clio
The 5 EV will be joined by another new supermini in the Renault line-up. Expect a full-hybrid petrol powertrain, and the possibility of an EV version launched later. Renault have revealed that this Clio will look substantially different to the current model and will take styling cues from the Megane and Scenic EVs instead of the ‘retro-futuristic’ 5. It will be a similar size to the current Clio but expect more space in the rear for leg room and loading capacity.
Autocar - 21/58
Audi S5
There will be an A5 saloon and Estate in 2024 for the first time, whereas the A4 name will be reserved for E-Tron models. We can see that the new A5 and S5 will be slightly smaller than the outgoing A5 Sportback. The single light strip on the rear links with Audi’s new Design language seen on E-Tron models.
Autocar - 22/58
Audi A7 Avant
The next generation of the Audi A6 saloon and A6 Avant will be called A7 because the electric Audi A6 is already in development and looks completely different. Audi from now on will use even numbers only for electric models and ICE models will only use uneven numbers. Expect this car in late 2024 as a 2025 model.
Autocar - 23/58
Porsche 983 Boxster EV
The Porsche 983 Boxster EV will come out in 2025; not much is known about it. The Boxster might be available as a petrol version too, but this has not been confirmed or denied.
Autocar - 24/58
Toyota Supra GRMN
A fresh version of Toyota's sports coupe was recently sighted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Cloaked in camouflage, it showcased a redesigned fixed rear wing, along with a modified front bumper featuring canards and a more aggressive lower lip. Beneath the hood, there are speculations that the GRMN Supra might feature the S58 engine from the BMW M2; this GRMN model should launch in early 2025.
Autocar - 25/58
Skoda Elroq
In May 2023 Skoda teased us with a sculpture of the Elroq. The model on test closely resembles the sculpture. The Elroq is based on the Karoq and will sit below the Enyaq in the Skoda SUV line-up. Skoda have suggested that the Elroq will have better battery technology, more range and lower consumption than the outgoing models. Order books will open next year and is expected to be a big hit for the brand.
Autocar - 26/58
Aston Martin Vantage Volante
The new Aston Martin Vantage coupe was unveiled in February 2024 and features a very powerful 656bhp 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, alongside a much-improved interior. We expect the convertible version to feature the same when unveiled later in 2024.
Autocar - 27/58
Ford Capri EV 2025
Ford is further expanding its range of electric models and will be launching another model based on VW's MEB-electric-platform at the end of 2024. The name has not yet been released but we are expecting to to be called the Capri. In addition to the Ford Explorer EV, this will be the second model on the same platform with a sportier profile. Performance and range are likely to be similar to the Ford Explorer.
Autocar - 28/58
Mini Cooper 5-door 2025
Recent prototypes of the combustion engine MINI Cooper 5-door have revealed significant details with the removal of camouflage around the head and taillights, bumper, and grille. The exposed grille provides a view of production details, offering a clear look at the forthcoming model's design. The model is expected to launch in 2024 as a 2025 model.
Autocar - 29/58
Mercedes EQC SUV
The New Mercedes EQC SUV is coming in 2025 and has an entirely redesigned front end, signalling that Mercedes want to give their SUV a distinct look to others.
Autocar - 30/58
Audi Q3 2025
The new Audi Q3 will be launched as a 2025 model and will be a plug-in hybrid. In terms of proportions, it remains similar to its predecessor, but the headlights and daytime running lights will be changed again. At the rear, we can already make out the lights with the new graphics.
Autocar - 31/58
Audi A6 Avant e-tron
With a range of up to 435 miles, Audi will launch the Audi A6 e-tron saloon in 2024 (inset). Somewhat delayed, there will also be an estate version released by the end of 2024, which will then be launched as a 2025 model.
Autocar - 32/58
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
Chevrolet arrived at the Nürburgring with two different prototypes of the Corvette ZR1, which is set to be launched in 2025. Both cars dropped some camouflage compared to older spy shots seen earlier this year. We can see a new rear spoiler which they’re testing, but both are different from each other. We suspect there will be two versions of this model: a road-going version, and a track focused alternative.
Autocar - 33/58
Hyundai Palisade
This big three-row all-new Palisade Mk2 shows hints of clean, angular styling that appears influenced by the design direction of the striking new 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. This new model has a notably longer wheelbase than the current model, growing to better target competitors like the recently redesigned Honda Pilot and the new Toyota Grand Highlander.
Expect two new engines: a 2.5-litre Hybrid powertrain and a new turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 to replace the 3.8-liter found in the current model. We expect it to be unveiled in summer 2025, as a 2026 model.
Autocar - 34/58
Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 EV
Despite the prototype being heavily camouflaged, it is easy to see how the AMG differs from the standard Mercedes GLC EV. Large performance calipers and drilled brake discs are evident. Interestingly, the rear axle has noticeably smaller calipers and rotors. Larger wheels with a sporty rim design give the car a nice presence. Compared to the standard GLC EV, the lower section of the bumper has a wider air intake. However, we will have to wait until at least mid-2025 for the unveiling of this model.
Autocar - 35/58
Porsche Cayenne
The next generation Porsche Cayenne is going all-electric. We saw some early Cayenne EVs testing at the Nürburgring in 2023, but we have now spotted Porsche Macan EV wearing chassis mules winter testing in Scandinavia near the Arctic circle. Expect to see the car formally for the first time in 2025, as a 2026 model.
Autocar - 36/58
Audi RS5 Avant
Audi Sport is working on the new Audi RS5 Avant for 2025. This successor to the Audi RS4 Avant will be the first Audi Sport model to be a plug-in hybrid. The images show fuel and Plug-In caps on the driver and passenger side. In addition, the yellow warning stickers in the windscreen indicate electrification. A major visual difference from the outgoing model is that the exhausts have been moved more central to the rear of the car.
Autocar - 37/58
DS8
DS Automobiles is going all-electric or hybrid in 2025, and part of that is the new DS8 SUV due in 2025. The pictures reveal an interesting design, clearly influenced by the Aero Sport Lounge concept car of 2020, with the same coupe-like rear roofline.
Autocar - 38/58
Citroen C3X
This may look like a SUV, but in fact it’s hiding the prototype of Citroen’s new C3X saloon, out winter testing in Scandinavia when we spotted it. Expect the model to go on sale in the markets where saloons remain popular like South America, India and Eastern Europe. Expect conventional engine power, but a pure electric version might follow.
Autocar - 39/58
Alpine A290
The new Renault 5 EV was unveiled in February at the Geneva motor show, and Renault is developing a high-performance Alpine version; expect to see it in 2025.
Autocar - 40/58
Mercedes-Benz CLA
Mercedes isn’t taking the all-electric route with its CLA saloon just yet – the next generation will be available with normal petrol engines as well as electric ones. The main difference between the two is in the grille; we expect to see both launched at same time late in 2024.
Autocar - 41/58
Volkswagen Tayron 7-Seater
The Tayron is currently only available in China, but in 2025 it will go on sale in most major global markets as a replacement for the Tiguan Allspace, though it will be significantly longer than that car.
Autocar - 42/58
Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV
The all-new all-electric Mercedes C-Class will be based on the same platform as the fully electric Mercedes-Benz GLC. While the future CLA EV is more of a 4-door coupé, the electric C-Class is more of a saloon. Expect this car to be on the road in late 2025.
Autocar - 43/58
Volkswagen T-Roc
Volkswagen will launch the second generation of the Volkswagen T-Roc in 2025 as a 2026 model, and we’ve spotted it out testing several times. Significantly it will be Volkswagen’s final pure internal-combustion engine car. It certainly looks like it will be quite a stylish new entrant to the market, and an importance one for VW: The T-Roc was the third best-selling car in Europe in 2023.
Autocar - 44/58
Audi Q7
Audi has started on-road tests of a new, third-generation version of its three-row Q7 SUV. Set for UK dealerships in early 2026, the SUV will be one of the last combustion-powered cars Audi launches. The firm plans to launch only electric cars from that year, on the way to phasing out ICE models completely in 2033. Design-wise, the new Q7 follows Audi's upcoming Q3 and Q5 in adopting a new-style front end, with an expansive new version of the octagonal grille and sleek, split-cluster LED light designs and a clamshell bonnet. We're also expecting a larger Q9 model too.
Autocar - 45/58
Ram 2500 HD Rebel
The 2500 HD Rebel was facelifted last year, but Ram are already planning on making changes to the current model. The heavily disguised front end, rear corners and interior suggest a fair few upgrades will occur. An EV version has been rumoured. America should expect this in 2026.
Autocar - 46/58
Porsche K1 Crossover
This seven-seat luxury crossover will be the flagship of the Porsche range. It has been confirmed that it will be purely electric. The design of the K1 appears to differ from current models such as the Macan. For a crossover with off-road capability, it looks rather low slung. As expected for a seven-seater, it has a very long wheelbase and flared rear arches, for space in the rear. A launch is expected in 2027.
Autocar - 47/58
Ferrari F250 Hypercar
There is no name yet for this model set to come out in 2025, but we do know its internal code: F250. This model, like all new supercars, will be a hybrid and is expected to set a new benchmark in terms of performance at Maranello. This model can be seen with FloViz colour in the front air intake in the bumper, hinting at interesting aerodynamic developments…
Autocar - 48/58
BMW I4 M EV
This may look like a normal BMW i4 M50 in an M livery, but it's a much more than that. This is rumoured to be BMW’s first full electric M car hiding a quad-motor powertrain. Gold brake callipers tell us it has carbon-ceramic brakes to match what we can only assume is rapid acceleration. The prototype shows a kidney grille design reminiscent of the M3 CS and M4 CSL. Expect this to be launched in 2025.
Autocar - 49/58
Renault 4 E-Tech
Renault has been on a roll with reviving icons from the past and the Renault 4 is no exception. A fully disguised prototype of the 4 shows the brand has gone for a 'retro-futuristic' design. Unsurprisingly, it shares the same platform as the new Renault 5. The prototype appears considerably taller than its sibling, with higher seating, and more ground clearance. Renault is calling it the “Swiss army knife” of the B-segment. Expect to see it launched in 2025.
Autocar - 50/58
Kia Tasman
Don’t expect to see the Tasman in Europe anytime soon, but Korea, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East should expect a debut in 2025. One engine will be on offer: a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel unit, available with automatic and manual transmissions. The pictures reveal similarities in design to the Kia Mohave. Kia’s first ever pick-up truck will be tasked with taking on the Volkswagen Amarok, Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.
Autocar - 51/58
VW ID.2/Golf
The market is crying out for more affordable EVs, and the ID.2 will seek to address it. Based on a shortened platform from the VW ID.3, this chassis test vehicle has a shorter wheelbase and is shortened at the rear door. The Volkswagen ID.2 gets its charging point at the front right below the a-pillar and not at the rear like on the ID.3. The new Volkswagen ID.2 will be launched in 2025 and will be the brand's future entry-level electric mobility model.
There are rumours that it will adopt the Golf name, and feature a hot GTI variant, as foretold in the VW ID.GTI concept car unveiled at the 2023 Munich motor show.
Autocar - 52/58
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 4-door EV
The successor to the GT 4-Door Coupé will pack an unprecedented 1000bhp punch in a bespoke, electric super-saloon that will begin testing soon. Arriving in 2025, this will likely be the firm’s most powerful road car yet. Serving as an electric alternative to the V8 engined GT 63 4-Door Coupé, AMG’s first bespoke electric car will be tasked with taking on big-selling EV sports saloons such as the Porsche Taycan, Audi E-tron GT and Lucid Air.
Autocar - 53/58
BMW iX3
The first model to be based on BMW’s Neue Klasse EV platform is taking shape ahead of a planned launch during the latter half of 2025. Set to succeed the existing iX3, the bold five-seat SUV will pack close to 600bhp in its most potent form and spearhead a six-strong range of electric cars atop the new 800V platform. Among them will also be the radical i3 saloon, which was previewed as the Neue Klasse concept at the Munich show in September 2023.
Autocar - 54/58
Alpine A 310 2+2
In an exciting development, Alpine is revising the A310 nameplate as a rakish four-seat EV sports car; it’ll be based on the forthcoming all-electric A110 that is due in 2027 and thus also based on APP; this 2+2 with luck will launch shortly afterwards and help extend the practicality of the Alpine range.
Autocar - 55/58
Alpine GTX-Over
Renault performance brand taps into the mainstream with a sporting compact SUV based on the electric Mégane’s platform. Don’t expect a jacked-up A110 - it’ll be much more like a Lotus Eletre or Polestar 3. It will likely utilise a second motor on the rear axle, much like Nissan’s range-topping e-4orce Ariya, which is also on the Megane platform.
Autocar - 56/58
Ford Puma Gen-E EV
The facelift of the current Ford Puma has already been unveiled but Ford are keeping the all-electric Ford Puma Gen-E under wraps. It appears to have minor differences against the petrol/hybrid model. A completely closed grille at the front is evident and the design of the alloy wheels are specific to the EV version. Ford hasn't released any specifications yet, but for this class of vehicle a battery size of around 50kWh is likely.
This should be enough for a range of more than 200 miles on a full charge. A launch date is unconfirmed, but we should see it in showrooms by 2025 in Europe; it won’t be sold in North America.
Autocar - 57/58
Renault Espace
Renault are contemplating the revival of yet another 20th century model in the ‘retro-futuristic’ style of the 5 EV and the proposed 4 EV. It will take design inspiration from the original Espace – a car which turns 40 this year and one that started the MPV revolution in Europe. In the vein of the 4 and 5, it will be an EV. Don’t get too excited though, as it will be a good few years before any launches are planned.
Autocar - 58/58
Volkswagen Scirocco
Volkswagen has launched internal studies around a new Scirocco as a part of a joint project with Porsche, Audi and Cupra. There have been hints that the design will resemble that of the original Scirocco and will come in the form of an electric sportscar, with a possible dual-motor, and an all-wheel drive flagship model badged as an ‘R’. Expect a launch in 2028 if production approval is granted by Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer.
