Yahoo Autos Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Sets Records At Two Famous Tracks

A debate has been raging for years in the collector car world about whether or not EVs will be a substantial force in the future. While there have been a handful of notable electric car collector purchases, it’s still to early to tell what the future might hold. But if EVs do become a legitimate category for collectable vehicles, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package likely will be at the forefront.
Not only does the four-door Porsche EV look fantastic, it’s the real deal when it comes to visceral performance. What it lacks in V8 or flat-six snarl it makes up for in motorsports chops. That was proven definitely by Porsche recently when the automaker used a car with the Weissach package to set the record at two famous racetracks.
Performance is front and center with the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package. Peak output is a monstrous 1,019-horsepower and Porsche claims the 0-60 acceleration is a ferocious 2.1 seconds. Top speed is impressive at 190 mph when equipped with summer tires. The EV is even dominant in the quarter mile, polishing that off in a claimed 9.4 seconds.
On February 23, 2024 the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package set the record for fastest electric series production car around Laguna Seca at 1:27.87 minutes. Before that, the car set a record on the famous Nurburgring, blasting around the Nordschleife in 7:07.55 minutes.
While others are debating about whether or not anyone needs a Porsche Taycan that’s so fast (which is a silly discussion to have, quite frankly) we’re wondering how this EV will be remembered 20, 30, 50 years from now? Will people look back on it with fondness and awe like how we regard so many classic performance cars today? If so, then scooping one up and treating it lovingly, although also enjoying it at the track, could be a savvy move.
