Tesla Cybertruck Recalled Over Pedal IssuesTesla
  • Tesla delivered its first batch of Cybertrucks during an event in December 2023.

  • The Tesla Cybertruck is being recalled because the accelerator pedal pad can become dislodged and get trapped in the truck’s interior trim.

  • Tesla is recalling 3,878 examples of the Cybertruck.

Tesla is recalling almost 4,000 examples of its polarizing Cybertruck. Spurring this recall is a pedal pad that can come loose from the accelerator pedal and become trapped in trim underneath the dashboard. This could cause unintended acceleration, and possibly cause a crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall report, Telsa does have a remedy. According to the recall report, Tesla will replace the affected Cybertruck’s accelerator pedal assemblies.

As far as what models are affected, the recall report does not give any VIN ranges. It does note the recall covers Cybertrucks built from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024. Unfortunately for Cybertruck fans, the recall notice reports that 100 percent of the 3,878 pickups manufactured in that window fall under the recall.

The recall also notes what’s causing the pedal pad to lift from the accelerator pedal assembly. According to the notice, there was an unapproved change in the assembly method, and soap was used to aid in the pedal’s assembly. Apparently, the use of soap reduced the pad’s retention to the rest of the assembly.

Owners should expect to see a letter in the mail about this recall in June, but you can reach out to Tesla customer service if you’re more concerned.
