It's a rare moment when a model adds cylinders instead of removing them. While it started with a V-8, the Porsche Cayenne S eventually downsized to six-cylinder offerings, but that changes for 2024.
The Porsche Cayenne S has ditched its twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6.
The twin-turb0 4.0-liter V-8 living underhood makes 468 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, making this the most powerful Cayenne S to date.
This is the same eight-cylinder that's found in the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid and Turbo GT, albeit detuned.
In our testing, the Cayenne S shot itself to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
The Cayenne S Coupe only needed 12.4 seconds to reach the quarter-mile mark, which it did at 111 mph.
While its V-8 sings a 77-decibel song at full tilt, it's much quieter at highway cruising speeds, where it emits just 65 decibels.
Even the base model Cayenne S picks up a new set of dual-adjustable adaptive dampers, improving the ride quality markedly.
Of course, the V-8 does ask for something in return.
With an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 17 mpg combined (15 city/21 highway), it's also the least fuel-efficient Cayenne S to date.
