The 992.2-generation Porsche 911 GTS is about to get greener, sort of. A new hybrid powertrain boosts output and performance, as we noticed on a quick shotgun ride at Porsche's development center.
While the base 992.2 911 gets a modified version of its existing engine, the GTS takes things in a different direction.
The 911 GTS's new engine pairs an electrically turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six with a motor-generator mated to the PDK eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
By itself, the engine makes 478 horsepower and 420 pound-feet.
Throw the electric motor into the mix, and the whole shebang produces 532 horsepower and 449 pound-feet of torque.
The cabin features a new all-digital gauge cluster.
Yes, the iconic center tach is gone for the 992.2, but the digital cluster can be arranged in a variety of ways, including one that puts the tach back where it belongs.
Manufacturer-estimated curb weight for the 911 GTS rises from 3433 to 3536 pounds, which isn't bad considering there's an entire hybrid system in there.
Aesthetic changes for the 992.2 include a revised rear end with fewer strakes in the engine grille, and a few tweaks to the light bar and Porsche script.
911 GTS hybrid models will be easy to spot from the front, thanks to more prominent active grille shutters.
