The 2025 Subaru Forester enters a new generation in its 28th year of service. Has Subaru built a more modern compact SUV? Yes. But is it any more engaging? Not so much.

The 2025 Subaru Forester picks up a number of aesthetic tweaks, giving it a more rugged look without becoming a mess of angles and cladding.

A new air vent aft of the wheel opening makes for better airflow at highway speeds.

Subaru says the Forester's platform is 10 percent stiffer this year.

A wealth of new cabin insulation fails to make this Forester quieter than the previous generation.

The Forester's 2.5-liter flat-four makes 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to all four wheels through a continuously variable transmission.

The flat-four is down two horsepower year over year, but peak torque arrives earlier. Shuffling around town doesn't feel like a chore.

Scuff-resistant materials abound in the cabin, so your lifestyle shouldn't cause too much damage.

A new driver's seat offers better support low down, while the top portion has a stronger taper to aid rear visibility.

A tall new center display contains your usual infotainment and climate controls, much like every other new Subaru.
