View Photos of the Fourth Annual Lightning Lap Track Day
If you're reading this it's too late. Our fourth-annual Lightning Lap track day with Kaizen Autosport has concluded. Our riders showed up to post their quickest times around the 4.1-mile Grand Course layout of Virginia International Raceway. We've been to VIR for 17 years running, but this is our reader's turn to drive fast and brake late.
It was a gloriously hot and sunny Virginia day, with temperatures nearly reaching the 90-degree mark. Despite the heat, drivers in nine categories competed for the quickest time.
Adam Ruderman came to win. His Porsche Cayman GT4 was the quickest in the LL3 category by more than 10 seconds.
Tyler Routh's C5 Vette took the win in the LLR2 category. The bright paint and "Jake Skull" from the earlier days of Corvette Racing made him easy to spot.
A group of over 20 cars took to VIR, not to set times, but to get comfortable on track. The morning began with some education on driver etiquette, proper response to the many flags in racing, and some lead-follow laps to get everyone on the correct driving line.
Ain't no thing like a giant wing.
