While walking around Beverly Hills with friends yesterday I came across a very special car. This ultra low-mileage 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is one of the most bespoke specs of the model that Porsche created, with over $344,000 in options making its $639,345 MSRP 217 percent higher than the car’s base price. If that wasn’t enough, it was recently auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s as part of the White Collection for a massive $1,006,000.
More exciting than just seeing this unique GT2 parked on the street was seeing how freakin’ filthy it was. If you’re gonna drop $1 million on a car, you better get it dirty!
As you might have expected from the name, nearly all of the cars from the White Collection were painted white, and they were barely driven. This GT2 RS only had fifteen miles on the odometer when it was auctioned, so it made me super happy to see the front end covered in bugs and the rear fender flare quarter panel caked in rubber. White cars look especially good when dirty, I think, and performance cars look even better when they’re not pristine.
While this GT2 might not look that special at first glance, it has a ton of custom touches from the factory. The Grand Prix White is a shade from Porsche’s Paint to Sample catalog, and it covers all of the exterior components that are normally black like the front splitter, side skirts, rear apron and grille mesh. All of the exterior carbon fiber is tinted dark blue, and the wheels are painted Deep Sea Blue.
You can’t see it from my pictures, but the interior is also highly personalized. Almost everything is covered in Yachting Blue leather, a common thread in a lot of the White Collection cars, and it has Pebble Grey stitching and Bianco Leda piping. RM Sotheby’s says more than 25 different areas got matching leather, and the Alcantara headliner is also finished in Yachting Blue. Other touches include Grand Prix White gauge faces, lots of blue carbon fiber pieces and even matching floor mats.
So, who is it that bought this extremely expensive, extremely low-mile Porsche and proceeded to drive the hell out of it? Edwin Castro, the guy who won the $2 billion Powerball lottery back in 2022. A native Californian who had been working as a mechanic, Castro has been living every car enthusiast’s dream by amassing an excellent collection of cars both vintage and new, including a bunch of Porsches. To all the rich people reading this, whether you’re newly rich or got that old money, this is how you should be using your cars.
