Yahoo Autos Fiat Grande Panda Is Cute as a Button in First Pictures
Fiat revealed the first images of the new Grande Panda that will join the brand's global lineup.
The Grande Panda will be built on the new Stellantis Smart Car platform, which it will share with the recently launched Citroën ë-C3.
It has seating for five and the capacity for both hybrid and electric powertrains.
Fiat's international fleet continues to grow while the North American lineup remains depressingly small. The Italian marque just released the first photos of the new Grande Panda, an adorable little crossover for the European B-segment.
Despite the large-sounding name, the Grande Panda is rather small. At 157.1 inches, the new Fiat measures 2.7 inches smaller than the segment average and 10.1 inches smaller than the diminutive (and discontinued in North America) Fiat 500X.
Even if the size of the car doesn't match up with the big name, the design certainly does. The Grande Panda is practically bursting with design details that make the production model look like more of a concept vehicle.
Both the headlights and the taillights adopt a pixel theme reminiscent of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The word "PANDA" is imprinted in bas-relief style along both sides of the car, with "FIAT" printed on the rear hatch. Fiat says the 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels maintain the pixel theme, which recalls the 1980s geometric design and the original Panda 4x4.
The Grande Panda will be built on the Stellantis Smart Car platform, which it will share with the recently launched Citroën ë-C3. Like the Citroën, the Grande Panda will make use of both hybrid and electric powertrains.
Fiat hasn't confirmed any figures, but you can expect the electric version to have a 44.0-kWh battery pack and 199 miles of range (based on the optimistic European WLTP cycle) while producing a meager 113 horsepower. As for the hybrid model, that should also follow the C3 with a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine and an electric motor to provide a nominal boost in power.
