2025 VW Jetta Refreshed, GLI Saves the ManualVolkswagen
  • The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta has received a light facelift with sleek looks and a new standard 8.0-inch touchscreen.

  • The powertrains remain the same, and the GLI retains its optional six-speed manual transmission.

  • Prices start at $23,220 and sales kick off later this year.

While Volkswagen's sales primarily rely on the success of its growing SUV lineup, the Jetta sedan remains strong. Through the first quarter of 2024, the Jetta was the brand's third bestselling model and saw its sales surge by 185 percent year-to-date. In a bid to keep the momentum going, Volkswagen is refreshing the Jetta and sporty Jetta GLI for 2025, with a sleeker design, new standard features, and an affordable base price.

Sharper Styling

For 2025, the Jetta looks more streamlined than before, with slimmer headlights and a thinner upper grille, which on the Sport, SEL, and GLI features an LED light bar linking the headlights. The new taillights are also connected via a full-width light, and the front and rear bumpers have also been revised. The SE wears new 17-inch wheels, while the SEL and GLI gain new 18-inch wheels. New black wheel packages are available for the SE and GLI, while two new paint options (Monterey Blue Pearl and Monument Grey) are offered.

The Jetta's dashboard has been overhauled with three slats that run in front of the passenger and blend into the air-conditioning vent. To the left sits a new floating display, with an 8.0-inch unit now standard across the lineup, replacing the 6.5-inch touchscreen that was standard on the S, Sport, and SEL. The automatic dual-zone climate control—now standard on all Jettas—has jettisoned the physical dials and buttons in favor of a new capacitive touch setup. A 15-watt wireless charging pad with integrated cooling comes on the SE, SEL, and GLI.

VW has also added more standard content to the SE, which gains wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, voice control, and SiriusXM radio. The SE also features new perforated, two-tone Microcloud leatherette seats which now offer a Seawall Blue/Storm Grey color combination. Sport models, meanwhile, gain the black Molekular cloth seats first seen on the GLI 40th Edition. The SEL continues to feature perforated Vienna leather but offers a new Brown/Titan Black color combo, and the sporty GLI continues to have Vienna leather seats with red contrast stitching.

Same Four-Cylinder Power

The Jetta's powertrains remain unchanged for 2025. The turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four continues to supply 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed manual that was previously offered on the S and Sport models is no longer available, however.

The Jetta GLI still packs a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, pumping out 228 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque. The front-whee-drive GLI continues to offer both a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The GLI also still includes performance upgrades like bigger brakes, a limited-slip differential, adaptive dampers, and a sportier exhaust.

All Jettas, including the GLI, also come with the automaker's IQ.Drive system as standard, comprised of front and rear radar, a front camera, and an array of ultrasound sensors. The package includes driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. There is also Emergency Assist, which monitors the driver's attention and can bring the car to a stop and activate the hazards if it determines that the driver is no longer in control of the vehicle.

The full range of pricing isn't available just yet, but Volkswagen says the Jetta S will start at $23,220. That is a tad higher than the 2024 model's $22,660 base price, but that was for a manual-equipped Jetta, and the automatic-only 2025 Jetta S is actually $240 less than the cheapest automatic from 2024. The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta should hit dealerships by the end of the third quarter of this year.
